Below you'll find key dates for the fresher fall of 2023. In addition, you'll find information about future events in TKO-äly's event calendar. The university guide for the orientation week can be found here.

In addition to the events below, we will organize events for all of our members, unofficial gatherings and events for your own tutor group.

We might have to change these dates and schedule. Follow our announcements on the fresher channel (you'll get the invitation link from a tutor), keep an eye on the event calendar and this page as we get closer to orientation week. The events that are organized mostly for the freshers are not added to the event calendar.

August
Sun 27/8		Head start on the fresher year 18:00 (Calendar event) SUOMENLINNA IS CANCELLED TODAY BECAUSE OF THE RAIN! Instead, let's meet around 18 (when the rain should stop) in the Väinämöisen puisto A traditional head start on the fresher year in Suomenlinna: Come meet and hang out with your fellow students to be! If you want to head to Suomenlinna together, come and meet us at Manta (the Havis Amanda statue) at 12 o'clock TKO-äly will offer some snacks and refreshments. You can also bring your own snacks and drinks! We will take the ferry to Suomenlinna, for which you'll need an HSL ticket valid in Zone A.

	Mon 28/8	Orientation day I Fresher laptops given out in Physical between 9:00-14:00 Board Game Night at Exactum 18:00-23:00
	Tue 29/8	Orientation day II SISU-info and International Exchange Services and Education Cooperation presentation, at 12:00-14:00, Exactum B123 Fresher laptops given out in Physicum between 09:00–15:00 Bachelor's Programme in Computer Science: 12:00-14:00. A111 Orientation event for Master's students in Data Science (part 1/2): 9:15–11:00, CK112 Master's Programme Orientation event for Master's students in Computer Science (part 1/2): 14:15–16:00, B123 Master's Meeting your tutor group for the first time and possible campus tours (14:00–16:00)
		Hanging out at a park 16:00 After the campus tours, we'll hang out in the Kumtähti field
		Fresher Klusteri 18:00 (18:00-22:00 alcohol-free) After the park, we'll head to Klusteri You can go there with the others straight from the park or go there by yourself (the address is Leppäsuonkatu 11) Ring the buzzer for "Christina Regina" and wait for somebody to come and open the door When you come in, make sure somebody tells you the rules of Klusteri :)
	Wed 30/8	Orientation week III Fresher laptops given out in Physicum between 10:00–14:00 Computer Science and Data Science Exchange: 12:00-14:00, Exactum D112 Exchange Life Science Informatics: 10:00–11:00, Exactum B120 Master's
		Student association market 13:00–16:00 Come to Physicum and get to know the different student associations of Kumpula. From here you can buy overall patches too
		PSP 11:00–14:00 We'll help you out in making your own personal study plan (PSP), if you don't have one already, in Exactum rooms BK107 and B221 (see Exactum map)
		Fresher sauna 17:00 Let's have a sauna! 17 o'clock at the Mäkelänkadun sauna, Mäkelänkatu 91, Helsinki If you want to leave together, we leave from Kumpula at 17:00 Going to the sauna starts at 18:00 in shifts
	Thu 31/8	Orientation day IV Guidance and wellbeing online event (in Finnish): 9:00–12:00, will be remote and recorded. Swedish speaking faculty introduces itself: 12:00–14:00, Physicum E205 Guidance and wellbeing online event Zoom (in English): 13:00–16:00, will be remote and recorded. 		City tour 14:00 Get to know central Helsinki Departure from Exactum's main entrance (courtyard between Exactum and Physicum)
		Park hangout 16:00 Afters in the Väinämöinen park! We'll BBQ!
		Interdisciplinary fresher party 22:00 From the park we go to afters to Kaivohuone, here we hangout and party with Biosfääri (biological and environmental sciences), EKY (veterinary medicine) and TYT (theology) students!

	Fri 2/9	Orientation day V Guidance and wellbeing online event Zoom (in Swedish) 9:00–12:00 Info session of different fields of science, Limes ry, 12.00–14.00, Exactum A111 Housing info 10:00–11:00, Zoom Exchange Chance to buy patches and become a member of TKO-äly. Take some cash with you. Patches 1–2.5 €/piece, membership 4 € / year, 10 € / 3 years or 15 € / 5 years. TKO-äly mug 5€ You can also buy our yellow overalls for €15.
		Kumpula Fresher Orienteering aka KJYFS klo 18.00 WHAT: Kumpula fresher orienteering WHERE: At Kumpula area WHEN: 1.9.2023 15-20 o’clock, park afterparty at Kumtähti park 20-> DRESSCODE: Anything. The event takes place outside so that should be taken in account Laajenna More info Hey and welcome to Kumpula fresher orienteering, which is also known as KJYFS! During the event you get to orienteer through the checkpoints that are holded by organizations of Kumpula and some other organizations within University of Helsinki. The event will be holded at Kumpula area 1.9. 15-20 o’clock and will continue as a park afterparty after that at Kumtähti park. You can divide into groups freely, but you can still get help with this from your own tutors if necessary. Sat 2/9		Nations' fresher park 14:00–20:00 Introductory event for the student nations at the University of Helsinki in Hesperia Park After the park, some nations have afterparties for freshers, which can be asked about at the tents.
Mon 4/9		Opening ceremony of the academic year 14:00–18:00 A somewhat fancy academic event, open to all, held in the university festive hall At the same time is the opening carnival, where organizations associated with the student union introduce themselves and their activities on the central campus, i.e., the main building, Porthania, Think Corner and in front of the buildings.
		Nations' fresher disco 21:00–03:00 A party by the nations at the Tavastia Club (Urho Kekkosen katu 4-6)
Thu 28/9		HYY fresher adventure Going around the city in groups at checkpoints. Best groups will be awarded. Website for the events
