Below you'll find key dates for the fresher fall of 2023. In addition, you'll find information about future events in TKO-äly's event calendar. The university guide for the orientation week can be found here.

In addition to the events below, we will organize events for all of our members, unofficial gatherings and events for your own tutor group.

We might have to change these dates and schedule. Follow our announcements on the fresher channel (you'll get the invitation link from a tutor), keep an eye on the event calendar and this page as we get closer to orientation week. The events that are organized mostly for the freshers are not added to the event calendar.

August
Sun 27/8		Head start on the fresher year 12:00 (Calendar event) A traditional head start on the fresher year in Suomenlinna: Come meet and hang out with your fellow students to be! If you want to head to Suomenlinna together, come and meet us at Manta (the Havis Amanda statue) at 12 o'clock TKO-äly will offer some snacks and refreshments. You can also bring your own snacks and drinks! We will take the ferry to Suomenlinna, for which you'll need an HSL ticket valid in Zone A.
Orientation week	You can find the events relevant for your degree programme here. They will add the links for the remote events later.
	Mon 29/8	Orientation day I No events planned for now
	Tue 30/8	Orientation day II Fresher laptops given out in Physicum between 10:00–14:00 Bachelor's Programme in Computer Science (for degree students): 12:00–14:00, A111 Master's Programme in Data Science, 12:00–15:00, CK112 Master's Programme Meeting your tutor group for the first time and possibly a tour around the campus (14:00–16:00)
		Hanging out at a park 16:00 After the campus tours, we'll hang out in the Kumtähti field
		Fresher Klusteri After the park, we'll head to Klusteri You can go there with the others straight from the park or go there by yourself (the address is Leppäsuonkatu 11) Ring the buzzer for "Christina Regina" and wait for somebody to open the door When you come in, make sure somebody tells you the rules :)
	Wed 31/8	Orientation week III Fresher laptops given out in Physicum between 10:00–14:00 Life Science Informatics: 10:00–11:00, Exactum B120 Master's Master's Programme in Computer Science: 9:15–11:00 B123 (NB! Another event on Thu) Master's
		PSP 14:00–17:00 We'll help you out in making your own personal study plan (PSP), if you don't have one already, in Exactum rooms BK107 and B221 (see Exactum map)
		Fresher sauna 16:00 Let's have a sauna! 16 o'clock at the Mäkelänkadun sauna, Mäkelänkatu 91, Helsinki
	September
	Thu 1/9	Orientation day IV Fresher laptops given out in Physicum between 10:00–14:00 Guidance and wellbeing online event (in Finnish): 9:00–12:00, will be remote and recorded. Swedish speaking faculty introduces itself: 12:15–13:45, Physicum E205 Guidance and wellbeing online event (in English): 13:00–16:00, will be remote and recorded. Orientation event for Master's students in Data Science: 10:00–12:00 CK112 Master's Orientation event for Master's students in Computer Science: 14:15–16:00, B123 Master's
		Subject organizations introduce themselves 14:00–17:00 Subject organizations introduce themselves in Physicum. In previous years, there's been stands, mini lectures, laboratory demos and tours with an open doors kind of mentality. They will also sell tickets for Friday's fresher party organized by Matlu.
		City tour 17:00 Get to know central Helsinki with TKO-äly's chair Departure from Exactum's main entrance (courtyard between Exactum and Physicum)
		Park hangout 18:00 Afters in the Väinämöinen park! We'll BBQ!
	Fri 2/9	Orientation day V Guidance and wellbeing online event (in Swedish) 9:00–12:00 Other fields of study introduce themselves 11:00–13:00
		Faculty orienteering 14:00 We'll tour the campus and its key spaces in groups in a relaxed way. The best groups are rewarded. Orienteering starts at 14:00 in front of Gurula You can also buy patches and become a member of TKO-äly. Take some cash with you! The patches cost €1–4 / a piece, the membership €4 / a year, €10 / 3 years or €15 / 5 years. You can also buy our yellow overalls for €10.
		Matlu party 18:00 A party for all of the Kumpula freshers near the Kumpula Botanic Garden
Sat 3/9		Nations' fresher park 14:00–20:00 Introductory event for the student nations at the University of Helsinki in Hesperia Park There will be a tutor-organised departure (with details to be announced later) to the park, but you can also join later at any time. After the park, some nations have afterparties for freshers, which can be asked about at the tents.
Mon 5/9		Opening ceremony of the academic year 12:00–18:00 A somewhat fancy academic event, open to all, held in the festive hall At the same time is the opening carnival, where organisations associated with the student union introduce themselves and their activities on the central campus, i.e., the main building, Porthania, Think Corner and in front of the buildings.
		Nations' fresher disco 21:00–04:00 A party by the nations at the Tavastia Club (Urho Kekkosen katu 4-6); entrance is free with a student card, save for a cloakroom fee (€3.50)
Wed 7/9		Fresher Casual 17:00 A board game event at Klusteri with snacks and soft drinks The event is alcohol-free
Wed 21/9		Fresher orienteering A highlight of the fresher fall: Fresher orienteering, where we'll circle the city in groups and have a party at the end. After the orienteering, we'll reward the winners and celebrate. More info to come.
Thu 29/9		HYY fresher adventure Like TKO-äly's own fresher orienteering, but with participants from all subjects Website for the events
