Presentations of tutors and tutor coordinators in 2026 can be found on this page.

Tutors are responsible for introducing freshers, i.e. new students, to the everyday life and celebration of their studies. Each new student is included in a fresher group guided by a pair of tutors. Feel free to contact your tutors on any issue.

Fresher and tutor coordinators

Fresher and tutor coordinators aren't proper tutors but takes care of the flow of information and the organization of fresher events. In addition, the coordinators solve problems that the tutor has not been able to answer, for example. Tutor coordinators are in contact not only with tutors but also with the department. Please contact me if you have any doubts!

Hey hi and welcome to TKO-äly!

My name is Matias, one of your three fresher and tutor coordinators, and I'm starting my third year of computer science studies this fall. My favorite thing about TKO-äly is how many fun and different activities we have and how many new friends I've made during the last few years. That's why I highly recommend you to participate in different kind of events during the fall at a low bar!

On my free time I like to play videogames, tinker with computers and of course participate in student organisations like TKO-äly or nations (Also a warm recommendation for nations!)

Hey Freshers!

I'm Viljami and one of your fresher- and tutorcoordinators. I'm starting 4th year of studies and umgh; maybe I need to start study something again. The values that are important to me are diversity and equality. Mistakes can and must be made to learn. The most important thing is the right direction and development.

Good luck getting a place to study, and especially a great choice. Our program and community is the best and we can accommodate some really diverse people. Everyone can be themselves without fear of being judged.

Whatever the problem, I'm really happy to help. There are no stupid questions. I still remember how I was having coffee when I started and how much help I got by asking and also that others dared to ask. This year I'm also membership officer. Hi!

I'm Matias, a second-year student of computer science. On top of being a tutor, I'm also one of the studies representatives of TKO-äly. So please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about the structure of the degree, or if there are any problems with any of our courses.

Before my time as a CS student, I got my MA in English language. Hence, it should come as no surprise that I'm interested in interdisciplinary projects with the Faculty of Arts, linguistics in particular.

Hi! Congrats on getting in and welcome to TKO-äly!

I'm Aapo, one of last year's freshers. I started my studies last fall after a one year break and had an unforgettable fresher fall - I hope yours will be as fun as mine! You will usually find me sitting at the table in our student room Gurula doing schoolwork (or procrastinating :D). You can also find me in many TKO-äly events sober, so if you want less drunk company, look for me :)

At TKO-äly I've quickly become an active and I've got myself into several positions. We have a wide variety of things to do, many of which don't require that much time or effort. If you are interested in student org activity or organizing an event for example, feel free to come talk to me!

I'm also a member of the board, so if you'd like to buy patches or overalls for example (or help me procrastinate in terms of Mario Kart), come get me! In general, if you have any questions you can come talk to me irl or on Telegram :)

Olen Okko, tietojenkäsittelytieteen 2. vuoden opiskelija. Olen sekä TKO-älyn että Matlun opintovastaava. Jos siis ilmenee asioita opinnoissa tai muussa yliopiston toiminnassa (mentorointi, ym.), joista pitää viestiä yliopiston suuntaan joko tietojenkäsittelytieteen tai koko matemaattis-luonnontieteellisen tiedekunnan tasolla, kannattaa laittaa viestiä. Muutenkin kantsii tulla juttelemaan, jos on kysymyksiä ihan mistä vaan.

Sydäntä lähellä on opinnot, ohjelmointi, erilaiset askartelujutut, pyöräily, musiikin kuuntelu ja elektroniikka. Muutama lemppari: Haskell, Rust ja Nix.

Hi,

I'm Pihka, a second-year computer science student. Just two years ago, I mostly kept to myself in high school, but at university, student life quickly drew me into all sorts of activities, and my first year turned out to be perhaps the best year of my life. I hope you, too, get to experience an exceptional year.

Last year, I could be seen sitting Gurula on sofas on at the the table staring at math or code. If you see me there this year too, feel free to help me get a break from studies by asking a question or just striking up a conversation. I gladly hear about your interests!

On my freetime I haphazardly work on my projects, moving them forward or to south. If you are interested you can always ask about my current project, most likely it will be something virtual, interactive and visual.

Daniel "Dasuki" Kristiansson

I’m Dasuki, and I’m now in my second year studying Computer Science. I went straight into university after upper secondary school. Programming has been my passion for a long time, and that’s what led me in this direction. My first year in CS flew by, thanks to all the fun events and parties. So definitely get involved in the events!

Teen opintojen ohella (tai opintojen sijaan ":D") töitä webdevin, tekoälytutkimuksen sekä IT-tuen parissa, ja vapaa-ajastakin suuri osa menee kaikenlaiseen tietokonetunkkaukseen. Tietokonehommien lisäksi vapaa-ajalla tykkään pelailla lauta- ja videopelejä, ja olenkin juuri aloittanut kasaamaan omaa lautapelikokoelmaani. Omasta kokoelmasta lempparit on tällä hetkellä Munchkin Cthulhu, The Tea Dragon Society, Port Royal, Wyrmspan sekä Here to Slay. Lempi videopelejä (jota pelaan aktiivisesti) on Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokémon (koko sarja) ja Vampire Crawlers.

TKO-älyllä olen Sitsivastaava ja Lanivastaava. Järjestän siis sitsejä ja lanitapahtumia. Yhdessä Lanitiimin kanssa järkkäämme joka maanantai viikottaisia Super Smash Bros. Ultimate turnauksia, joten tulkaahan rohkeasti mukaan pelailemaan. Onnittelut vielä kerran opiskelupaikasta ja tavataan syssymmällä!

Hello!

I’m starting my second year in the Computer Science bachelor’s program in autumn 2026. The first year went by scarily fast, mostly thanks to all the events (highly recommend them, sitsit are my personal favorites) and math courses (please make better decisions than me). Overall, even despite the math, I can definitely recommend university life here at Tekis (and congrats to you guys too for getting here).


In my free time I like playing different kinds of video games. Some of my favorites are Baldur's Gate 3, Stardew Valley, and Spelunky 2. Recently I’ve completed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Cyberpunk 2077, and I've just started playing The Binding of Isaac. Besides that, you can occasionally find me losing my mind for example in Overwatch or chess.

Outside of video games, university, and friends, I enjoy going for runs (I just about barely survived the Helsinki City Marathon) and practicing the basics of piano. I also recently read Project Hail Mary, and if anyone has similar book recommendations, I’d be happy to hear them.

Hei, onnittelut opiskelupaikasta ja tervetuloa Kumpulan kampukselle käpistelemään!

Mun nimi on Angel, ja mä oon toisen vuoden tietojenkäsittelytieteen opiskelija, TKO-älyn semiaktiivinen jäsen sekä mahdollisesti myös sun tuutori! Lukion jälkeen päätin lähteä opiskelemaan tätä ainetta, koska mulla oli jonkin verran aiempaa kokemusta ohjelmoinnista ja rakastan tietokoneita sekä niiden toimintaa. Mun oma fuksivuosi alkoi ja loppui silmänräpäyksessä. Olen nauttinut jokaisesta opiskelijatapahtumasta jossa olen ollut ja, vaikka matematiikka on ollut välillä vähän raskasta, olen pitänyt opintojani erittäin mielenkiintoisina ja elämää rikastavina!

Opiskelun lisäksi vapaa-ajallani tykkään pelata videopelejä sekä soittaa musiikkia. Olen soittanut kitaraa lähes koko elämäni, ja musiikki on erittäin lähellä sydäntäni. Tällä hetkellä en ole virkailija missään yliopiston ainejärjestössä taikka muussa tahossa, mutta tänä vuonna saatan mahdollisesti hakea johonkin rooliin (mikäli ylitän pahan tapani vältellä kaikkia vastuullisuuksia...).

Onnea opintoihin ja mulle saa tosiaan tulla puhumaan mistä vaan jos näet mut vaikka tapahtumassa tai Gurulassa :D

Heippa ja tervetuloa opiskelemaan tietojenkäsittelytiedettä meidän monipuoliseen sakkiin!

Olen Kaali tai Tiina, ihan kummin totut ensin sanomaan. Jos et muista kumpaakaan, sekin on ok. Minullakin on järkyttävä nimimuisti. Toisen vuoden opinnot ovat alkamassa, mihinköhän se ensimmäinen vuosi jo hurahti?

Vapaa-ajastani suuren osan vie pelaaminen, joissa kestosuosikki pelejä ovat Skyrim ja Cyberpunk 2077, juokseminen, ompelu ja lukeminen. Elokuussa juoksen Turussa puolimaratonin, johon yritän kesän ajan viilata parempaa aikaa (rip kesäopinnot). Ompelu ja kirjonta on minulla aika monipuolista keskiaika larppauksesta omiin vaatteisiin ja Kumpulan Speksiin. Lukeminen painottuu vahvasti fantasiaan, mutta monipuolisesti kyllä muutkin genret menevät. Olen myös auttamaton lukuslumpissa notkuja, eli se on valitettavan vaihtelevaa kuinka paljon luen.

Yliopistolta minut löytää hyvin satunnaisesti, mutta minua saa aina tulla vetämään hihasta tai vaikka vain juttelemaan. Ei ole myöskään omituista nähdä minua myös muilla kampuksilla, mutta kyllä Kumpulan kampus on koti :) Nähdään syksyllä!

Moi ja tervetuloa tekikseen fuksit ! (:

Opiskelen tokaa vuotta tekiksessä ja oon tykännyt pyöriä kampuksella kaikkien muiden ihanien tekisläisten kanssa. Fuksisyksy on niin sekavaa aikaa ja en malta oottaa, et pääsen teidän spirit guideks! Voitte laittaa mulle matalal kynnyksel viestii telegrammissa tai instassa @leilatseloeva.

Vapaa-ajalla tykkään elää vaa kaupunkielämää, eli käydä kaikissa kulttuuritapahtumissa, istua kahviloissa ja seurata muotia. Sen lisäks tykkään käydä salilla, boulderoimassa ja yleissaunoissa (i <3 sompis!). Tuu moikkaa mua kampuksel!

Helou!

Mä oon Georgi, yksi vuoden 2026 tuutoreista. Nimestä voi päätellä, että en oo syntyny Suomessa. Oonkin syntyny Itä-Virossa (cоответсвенно по русски я кумекаю в том числе). Aloitin itse opinnot viime vuonna, joten nyt alkaa toinen opintojen vuosi. :3 Päädyin tekikselle puoliksi vahingossa, mutta näin kun katsoo taaksepäin niin ajattelen kyllä, että tää oli yksi parhaimpia vahinkoja, mitä viime vuosien aikana on mulle tapahtunut! Toinen vuosi alkaa siis hyvällä mielellä. :)

Tykkään viettää aikaa kampuksella ja ottaa irti opiskelija-ajasta irti! Saa siis aina tulla moikkaa ja juttelee ja kyselee jne :3 Vietin kyllä paljon aikaa myös kampuksen ulkopuolella muun muuassa töissä (wohoo…), kuoroissa, kirkossa, metsässä ja kavereiden kaa.

Ryhdyin tuutoriksi, koska tykkään uusien ihmisten tapaamisesta ja on kiva päästä jubailee ja pähkäilee asioita yhdessä! Laita siis matalalla kynnyksellä viestiä! :3 Joskus mulla kyllä menee hetki vastata viesteihin, varoituksen sana. xd Anyways tg:ssä saa kiinni parhaiten ja lupaan tsempata tässä lukuvuoden alkupäässä vastaamisen suhteen. ;)

I am a second year computer science student and I have liked the studies and hanging out with other students at the campus or at events. Fall was the best time as a fresher for me and I hope you all will experience it the same. At the start I was a bit reserved about it all but I recommend having an open mind to everything and coming to as many events as you can. Jag heter Fenix (som fågeln) och fungerar som en av de svenskspråkiga tutorerna i år.

Jag studerar datavetenskap och påbörjar nu på hösten mitt andra studieår. På min fritid jobbar jag som mjukvaruutvecklare, lagar mat, spelar videospel samt läser skönlitteratur. Jag är även aktiv inom Spektrum, ämnesföreningen för svenspråkiga studeranden i Gumtäkt. Man finner mig ofta på olika evenemang samt på kampus.

Ett tips till gulisarna: Om du undrar om du ska ta med något, så ta med det. Du kommer att behöva det.

Hi there, and congratulations on getting into the program! I’m Anto, also one of your tutors. I’ve been studying mathematics and theoretical computer science for two years now. However, I’m officially starting my third year as a computer science student. That said, I’ve been an active member of TKO-äly for a while now.

My summer has flown by, besides my studies, I’ve been traveling both in Finland and abroad, as well as working on the mobile app for a certain streaming service.

I spend my free time working on various projects, ranging from maintaining home servers to building random small (or too big) applications and tools. I also enjoy reading technical literature, and my latest recommendation is Martin Kleppmann’s *Designing Data-Intensive Applications*. For work, I spend a lot of time working with web development technologies, but in my free time I enjoy, among other things, writing Rust and configuring my NixOS Linux system.

You can often find me at a table at Gurula, hanging out, or in the classroon "paja" *trying* to make something actually useful. Feel free to stop by for a chat or send me a message!

Mooi oon Juju! Opiskelen nyt tokaa vuotta tekiksellä ja oon tänä vuonna tuutori ja bilevastaava. Käyn paljon tapahtumissa ja yritän myös järjestää niitä (yritän parhaani ainaki). Juon paljon kahvia ja mun ruokavalio koostuu suurimmaks osaks nuudeleista. Tykkään ommella varsinki housuja ja teen paljon muitaki käsitöitä ja askarteluja.

Alotin tän alan opiskelun ilman et tiesin oikeestaan yhtään mitään mut omasta mielestä oon selvinny oikein hyvin, joten ei tarvii liikaa jännittää :)))

Welcome, and congratulations on getting into an excellent bachelor's programme. I'm a fourth-year student in Computer Science, or "käpistely", as it is more informally known. I'm starting my master's studies in Data Science this autumn, and I also previously completed a bachelor's degree in Economics, so I'm starting to have maybe a bit too much experience with university studies. I often hang around campus between Gurula, Unicafe, and Unisport (and sometimes I even go to lectures).

I started studying computer science without knowing much about it beforehand, but I've been really happy with my choice. The subjects are interesting and there is an active student community. I definitely recommend participating in events at the start of your studies and getting to know people. Tko-äly organizes a wide variety of activities, and on top of that there are lots of events from other student organizations. You can always come talk to me or send me a message if you have any questions.

In my free time I enjoy things like reading, walking, cycling, baking (occasionally), watching movies, visiting museums and nature, and hanging out with friends. I'm always curious to learn and try new things.

Onnea mahtavasta opiskelupaikasta ja tervetuloa tekikseen! Mä oon Maija, kolmannen vuoden opiskelija ja toinen tekiksen keittiömestareista. Suosittelen kaikkia osallistumaan niin moneen tapahtumaan kuin vain ehtii (ja etenkin sitseille, joissa pääsee maistamaan mun rakkaudella tehtyä ja tosihyvää ruokaa). Opiskelen sivuaineina myös kognitiotiedettä ja taloustiedettä ja vapaa-ajalla tykkään leipoa ja kokata kaikenlaista sekä käydä salilla ja ulkoilla. Mut näätte luultavasti useissa tapahtumissa tai kampuksella, jolloin saatan olla syvällä opiskelussa, mutta aina saa tulla moikkaamaan tai opiskeluseuraksi!

Congratulations on getting accepted to your studies at the University Of Helsinki!

I am Sammy, a Master's student in Data Science. You can usually find me in Gurula either deep in assignments or getting destroyed at Smash Bros — come say hi either way!

At TKO-äly I've taken on a few roles: I'm the International Student Coordinator and Representative, so if you're an international student trying to navigate student life in Finland, I'm your person. I also serve as the Data Science Coordinator, so come find me if you have questions about the programme. I am currently working at the university as a research assistant and writing my thesis.

I also host Board Game Weekly every Thursday — a free, chill event where we get together and play board games. No experience needed, just show up! It's a great way to meet people and take a break from studying.
